Cape Verde – Apr 18 & 19

On our first day we were in Praia, Ilya De Santiago, Cape Verde. We visited memorials to the country’s history. It was a quiet day there since it was Good Friday. We visited churches, and we saw a live re-enactment of the stations of the cross. We also had some delicious cocktails.

Of course we also visited a fort and Mary & Dave checked outside the inside of the cistern.

Our second Cape Verde day was in Sao Vicente Island which was really lovely. We had a great time with our guide, Elody. We toured the town admiring the beautiful Portuguese architecture.

We visited the cleanest produce market we have seen in months.

We visited the beach where a large music festival happens every August, Baia das Gatas.

The water was beautiful.

We went to the highest point on the island…it was freezing and foggy but fun. We tasted some green rum and headed back to town.

After our tour we ate lunch at a seaside restaurant where the Marys tried the local favorite dish, Cachupa. It’s similar to a stew and quite tasty. We also enjoyed some delicious Portuguese wine.
