Today we visited several of the beaches of Normandy. The US, UK, and Canada landed here to take France back from Hitler. This was a crucial step to eventually reclaiming Europe. It was fascinating to learn about the artificial harbor created to bring the equipment and men to the shore. There are still some remnants in the sea there. We had never thought about how all the tanks and trucks made it to land. The engineering was amazing.
The tremendous impact of all the lives lost was incredible.
