French Polynesia – Jan 18 -20

We started in Papeete, Tahiti. We walked through the town and visited the market. A wedding party came to the market. It was fascinating to see the outfits the bride and groom wore. They looked great.

We headed off on a Jeep tour up into the mountains to see the island’s waterfalls. It was quite an adventure bouncing around the back of a pickup truck. We crossed an underwater bridge, saw amazing waterfalls and laughed a lot with our friends.

Next stop was Bora Bora, the idyllic island we have all heard about. We took a tour that circled the island. We saw the beach bungalows above the water and blue blue seas. The guide talked about how much Bora Bora appreciated the US. In WWII, 6000 troops were stationed in Bora Bora. The troops built the road around the island. They developed the infrastructure for the island, bringing water from the mountains and electricity to the residents. We had some time to kill until our cruise so we had to try some Tahitian wine which was delicious. The boat cruise around the entire island with our ukulele playing captain was great!

Back in Papeete on Monday, we took a ferry to Moorea where we formed our very own scooter gang. We rented scooters and drove around the island with our new friends, Mary & Joanna. Probably not surprising that we have met more Marys, and they are all awesome. Moorea was strikingly beautiful! Every time we came around a bend we saw something spectacular.
