We thoroughly enjoyed our two days in Sydney, where we would’ve loved to spend more time. There was so much to see and do. We did our very best to sqeeze in as many activities as we could!
Wednesday morning we sailed into Sydney Harbour as the sun was coming up. It was beautiful as we turned a corner and the Opera House and Harbour Bridge came into view. It was truly spectacular. What a way to start the day!

Mary & Mary saw La Traviata at the Opera House. It was beautiful, but it seems likely that we won’t attend any more operas. If you go to the opera, doing so at the Sydney Opera House is the way to go.
We sailed a Tall Ship through the Harbour and really had a unique perspective on the area.

We finished the first day with a pub crawl at some of Sydney’s oldest pubs with our gang of friends. We did a lot of walking and saw a surprising number of enormous bats, aka flying foxes, over our heads. Creepy!

On Thursday we did a behind the scenes tour at the Opera House at 7 am. We arrived before it was filled with workers. We saw how they move the sets into place, the lifts, dressing and rehearsal rooms, and all the backstage stuff. When we were on the stage of the Opera House Kevin even sang a little. Now he can say he did it!

Of course, we had to visit Fortune of War, the oldest pub in Sydney.

Afterward, Kevin and Dave had more Mary-Free time, while the Marys bravely climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It’s the world’s tallest steel arch bridge. The views from on top were incredible.

We finished our visit with a “Sydney Sail-Away” celebration on the ship. What an amazing city!
