Nosy Be, Madagascar – Mar 24

We visited Lemuria Land with a local guide. It was an amazing spot full of wildlife.

Can you see him?

Leaping lemurs were everywhere!

We visited a few markets. They sold vanilla, spices, and produce grown on the island as well as crafts such as wood carvings and woven items.

Ferry boat and local fishing boat.

Children coming out of their school to go home for lunch.

Nosy Be was amazing. The wildlife was incredible, the scenery was beautiful, and the people were delightful. But the poverty was overwhelming. Madagascar has the lowest GDP of any country we visited. Lots of natural resources, but none of it is managed well, and the riches are not flowing to the people. Most people have no running water or electricity. Women take the laundry to the river to wash. We were reminded again of how fortunate we are. It also shows how happy people can be without all the stuff we think we need.
